Yom Yerushalayim

Yom Yerushalayim — reminder

Date: 17.05.2026

Yom Yerushalayim marks the return of Jerusalem to Israeli sovereignty, which occurred in 1967 during the Six-Day War. Jerusalem was the capital of the Jewish kingdom as early as the time of King David but was later conquered and destroyed by the Romans.

During Israel’s War of Independence in 1948, the city was divided: the eastern part went to Jordan, while the western part remained under Israeli control. On the third day of the Six-Day War, the Israeli army captured the eastern, oldest part of the city. This happened on the 28th of Iyar, and since then, Yom Yerushalayim—Jerusalem Day—has been celebrated on this commemorative date.
